About the Mental Health Education Conference:
Join us for NAMI Gulf Coast’s 6th annual Mental Health Education Conference! The conference will include tracks targeted for individuals with a mental illness, family members, caregivers, mental health professionals, and community members. The event offers a variety of educational sessions, a multitude of educational opportunities, and the possibility of eliminating the often confusing mental health care boundaries and shared perspectives of understanding for professionals, families and community, ultimately creating a stronger local mental health community.
Elizabeth McIngvale, Ph.D. (pictured right) is the founder of the Peace of Mind foundation, a non-profit dedicated to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Having been diagnosed with OCD herself, Elizabeth has made it her life mission to make a difference in the lives of those experiencing mental illness. Elizabeth is a licensed therapist who received her bachelor’s and master’s degree in social work from Loyola University Chicago and her Ph.D. in social work from the University of Houston. Today, she proudly serves as an assistant professor at Baylor University’s Diana R. Garland School of Social Work. Overall, Elizabeth is dedicated to giving a voice to the voiceless.
Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale (pictured left) is a Texas-grown phenomenon who knows how to “Save You Money, TODAY!” In 1981, Mack and his wife Linda stated Gallery Furniture with five thousand dollars and a dream. Mack began television advertising early on, and with his motto of “Early to bed, early to rise, work like hell and advertise,” he quickly became a household name. Mack’s strong work ethic is matched by his philanthropy and exceeded only by the commitment he has to his family. He has made many charitable contributions, including co-founding the Peace of Mind foundation.
